If you can join us, please let Florence Royer know immediately, so she can e-mail names and addresses to the chair. The chair will send out information and instructions about a week before the event.
CASH – Creating Assets, Savings and Hope United Way of Madison County has a partnership with AARP and Impact Alabama entitled CASH – Creating Assets, Savings and Hope. This is a free tax preparation service to families with household incomes less than $49,000.
Last year, the program provided help to 524 families! CASH was formed to help these families in several ways:
1) Free tax preparation saves each family an average of $250.00 in fees.
2) Many families do not know they are eligible for tax credits such as the Earned Income Tax Credit and the Child Tax Credit.
3) The CASH program helps families receive their refunds fast so that Refund Anticipation Loans with high interest rates can be avoided.
The CASH program is implemented by volunteers and supervised by United Way of Madison County staff. Volunteers staff the United Way of Madison County office on Monday and Wednesday evenings, and throughout the day on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays from late January through April.
Please consider volunteering your time. Volunteers will work shifts that accommodate their own work and personal schedules. If you are interested in serving as a volunteer, contact Fariba Tabarrok to sign up for the required training.
Treats for Troops The Board has decided to make Treats for Troops an ongoing year-round project. Click here for a list of suggested food and non-food items.
Christmas Project it has been our custom for a number of years to support one or more families each Christmas through the Healthy Families program of the National Children's Advocacy Center.
If you have not had an opportunity to contribute, you may do so by sending a check, payable to ASWA and marked Christmas Project, to:
ASWA P. O. Box 1561 Huntsville, AL 35807
The deadline for donations has been extended to December 1st.
We hope you will be able to participate in this opportunity to provide a wonderful Christmas for a deserving family.
